Electronic Inspection

Electronic inspection is the diagnosis done on an electronic equipment to find the faulty areas of the equipment and fix them before the equipment is ready for the actual release to the customer.

Some of the basic electronic equipments used for electronic detection are:

• Signal Detector: records electric signals from electronic equipment
• Digital Pulse Detector: generates pulses in an electronic device
• Multi-meter is a combination of 2 electrical measurement devices:
  • Ammeter: used to measure electric current in a circuit
  • Voltmeter: used to measure electrical potential variation among two points within an electric circuit

More advanced equipment consists of:

• LCR Meter: used to measure impedance, capacitance and resistance of a component
• Capacitance Meter: used to measure capacitors in an electronic device
• EMF Meter: used to measure electric and magnetic field in an electronic device
• Spectrum Analyzer: used to measure spectral energy of the signals
• Time Domain Reflect Meter: used to test the integrity of long cables

An essential aspect test engineers should consider during the electronic detection of a device is assessing its complexity. If the electronic device is simple, it would be wise to utilize simple electronic detection equipment rather than choosing any advanced equipment.

If the electronic equipment is complex or if consists of a group of electronic equipment networked together, test engineers should select the right combination of the electronic detection devices. It is also important for test engineers to design the electronic devices to be easily customizable given customers may require adding another device or modify basic settings.
